Alastair Hibbert is a British sculptor & painter, working predominantly in British stone, based in The Lake District, completing a foundation in fine art at Kendal College, where he studied printing, photography, graphics design. He is self-taught in stone and metal sculpture and painting landscapes en plein air. Alastair's landscape painting style is abstract with emphasis on raising the paint and building with layers of material into a more 3D painting style. In contrast his sculpting style is smooth and polished, using harder stones such as quartz, granite, marble and limestones. His works in painting and sculpture are engaging and tactile for the eye and hand.
Alastair explores the shapes and landscape that nature gifts us, and transposes this into the landscape paintings which he then uses as inpiration in the sculptures. These methods allow alastair to accentuate and promote geological features that impress the magnitude of the world we live in.
Art has always been a part of his life, seeing the beauty in the smallest and normally obsolete things. His use of reclaimed wood to make frames for canvases brings gravitas to the start of a painting and an added beauty not to mention it’s environmentally friendly. He sees the world through an ultra-observant artistic lens, impressing upon the viewer to look at the universe from a new perspective.
Alastair is also a staunch adventurer: having cycling round Europe 4000 miles solo; climbing mountains and visiting castles with immense natural geological features driving 8000 miles to the Black Sea, Adriatic and back. Alastair creates his works to give the viewer an adventure full of new perspectives inspiring your day.
