Made from Lake District Green "metal" like slate, this project was a new level of learning and growth for me. From the summers wet conditions to the weight of all 5 stones none under a ton some over 2.5. It really was a pleasure to show off Cumbrian stone in such a utilitarian and bold manner, its versatility is becoming more apparent by each passing project.
The Stones are positioned lying down utilising the larger faces as foundations and maximum seating or as tables. The top faces are polished to make sitting & lying more comfortable and to show off the character of each unique stone. The fire pit is not polished but has been gouged out into a small pit in the center of the stone to capture logs as they burn down and allow embers and ash to collect safely and allow cooking on. A channel has been cut from the small pit to the edge of the stone to allow easy cleaning and the escape of water.
Walnut my lovely patient assistant lying amongst the large boulders of this wonderfully characterful lake distract green slate. I also did some simple lettering of initials on each stone along with the year on one.
